New biweekly updates!
I became an English teacher in a foreign country because of wanderlust, a phase I'm still not done with. One of these days I will go to a nice beach rest and dink a cocktail nap and there reach for aloe cream, but not these days I have to apply to go back to university and find a new places to stay upon finishing my job. Hopefully an apartment in Seoul, one that is at least 400 square feet.
Now I've decided to focus my abilities these days towards learning Korean and writing, like copy-writing or even prose writing. It can be hard to do but now, with the love of my life, I'm ready to make mistakes take critiques, make a little less money, proofread with the grammatical understanding that learning a second language comes with, and work hard writing a blog that I will be embarrassed by.
Where will this go? A career in localization? Translating interesting documentaries from Korean to English, translating the most horrifically boring legal dispute since your neighbor tried to rename a road, Or even translating Youtube videos. These days I'm ready to quit full time English teaching. The vacation days are nice, but I'm not helping any students if I can't convince myself to enjoy it.
I've wanted to create things great things, high concept science fiction, historical horror stories, comedic stories with terrible pun jokes. I've always been too afraid of upsetting someone either because of my ideas or my grammatical mistakes. No more of that, I will write little odds and ends here. Status updates for my projects and my other professional activities.
As for translation, I've got a ways to go. But where there is demand there is a lot of opportunities to learn from mistakes. Mistakes the best way to learn anything. A mistake such as a forgotten web page.
Here are my current projects:
Andehl zone 21: A 3 chapter episodic novel about a human(you) must escape a war torn planet with the help of an alien smuggler. See the planet of Andehl and it's dangerous creatures. Run from the many apo militias and armed traders. Learn about the apo and their complicated relationships with humans and other apos. Choose, who will escape the war-zone? And who won't.
Almost halfway done with the rough draft. It'll be public by 2020.
Headhunter: across the pacific; I learned a lot from this project, I was told to plan every move and I planned maybe half of this game and winged it. As a result the project is unfinished and it's just sitting there, taunting me. It's a fan-sequel to the old Headhunter games published by Sega: there's a lot of ideas I put into this and a lot of things that aren't working. Someday I’ll drop it on itch.io a version that's finished and not a total mess. Anyway let's write some copy for this one:
In a world where credit scores determine what people are worth, one woman has something money can't buy: courage. Explore: a unified Korea in an increasingly divided world, a city that hides the most compromising secrets. Report: what should your boss know about the streets?
Content is...about done. No more levels to make. Combat is still a mess, and the script needs a revision.
It'll be public by...I'll sneak it out in late 2019.
Other: Some personal photography should add a bit more personality to this web page.
